Professional Mastery of Office Technology for Employment (ProMOTE) Assistive Technology Skills for the 21st Century Labor Market

In today’s world, employers assume that prospective employees will join the organization possessing basic core competencies and in-demand job skills in a continuously evolving labor market and may be reluctant to hire someone without those capabilities.

However, NSITE has found that placing jobseekers who are blind or low vision into in-demand careers leading to competitive integrated employment and economic self-sufficiency in any career field is often difficult. What many candidates lack are the vital assistive technology prerequisite skills needed to meet employer expectations.

To adequately prepare blind and low vision jobseekers for the demands of today’s employment market, NSITE is offering the Professional Mastery of Office Technology for Employment (ProMOTE) to:

  • Equip individuals who are blind or have low vision with highly focused, assistive technology skills in a work-based setting where they can learn practical solutions for managing multiple platforms and environments in the 21st Century workforce.
  • Support students and adults as early as possible to facilitate a seamless transition into employment readiness to ensure they are confident, competitive candidates in today’s job market.

ProMOTE is designed for students who have an intermediate knowledge of their Assistive Technology and the computer but need additional training to compete in the modern office. All topics covered are taught from the ground up to help close any learning gaps each student might have.

ProMOTE has an exclusive focus on building up learners’ fundamental skills with AT from intermediate to advanced, focusing on Microsoft Office, common meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams), troubleshooting skills and Internet browsing. The newly learned skills are then applied to project-based, time-sensitive tasks that mirror situations commonly encountered in the workplace.

What are the benefits?

NSITE’s virtual eight-week training program takes participants through the most common computer-related office tasks from start to finish, using a blend of formal virtual instruction, hands-on activities, and tasks that involve time-sensitive project-based work. The learning content and assignments mirror the demands of a professional position in today’s workplace.

We use highly experienced instructors and an innovative approach that is focused on individualized and customized strategies that inspire success.
